Dakota

Dakota

Dakota was a smallish terrier mix, a bit wiry-haired, presenting some challenges in implementing the quilt design. He had one blue eye and one brown eye. I used thread painting to add white highlights to his coat. This dog rode shotgun with the owner’s husband (a truck driver) and was a beloved member of the family.

Cuvee

Cuvee

This quilt was based on the owner’s favorite photo of her rescued greyhound Cuvee. I used Stonehenge fabric to create the brindle effect and hand dyed fabric for the background.

Roxie

Roxie

This dog caught my attention on Facebook. Her owner gave me permission to make an art quilt of her English Springer Spaniel Roxie and provided the photograph upon which this quilt is based. I thought this dog had the most soulful eyes as well as beautiful markings.

Etude du Chat (Study of the Cat)

Etude-du-Chat

This applique portrait of a cat looking down at his paw is based on an intriguing closeup photo done by his owner, who gave me permission to make this quilt. Strider is long-haired and had a fuzzy face with a cowlick along his nose. I found this project quite challenging to design and complete. I called it study of the cat (in French) in honor a friend who loves cats and all things French.
